To extract data from OBI to Tableau follow these steps :
Sign in to OBI(Oracle Business Intelligence) by entering User-Id and password.
Click on Catalog to open the Catalog tab.
Select the desired folder which you want to publish in Tableau. Let us consider the folder Supply Chain and Order Management under Shared Folders.
On clicking on Supply Chain and Order Management, all sub-folders appear on right hand side.
Out of all sub-folder let us consider the folder Sales Revenue and Fulfillment and click on Expand to open.
You can now find more sub-folders inside it. Choose any one folder to get into it. Let us consider the folder Customer and click on Expand.
You will now find some reports inside it. Select any one and click on edit. Let us consider Industry Profile.
You will be now directed to Result tab of that analysis and the result of analysis will be displayed.
Now go to Advanced tab and click on it.
Move down to Advanced SQL Clauses and write the code ” SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL=5,DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1;” in Prefix. Then click Apply SQL.
After clicking on Apply SQL a pop up window appears that gives a notification. Click OK to proceed.
Click on Save button on top right side to save the changes you made.
To view the session log Click on Administration.
Now move to Session Management and click on Manage Session.
A list of Session log appears on screen. Choose the session which has time nearly equal to current time and prefix that you have added. Then click View log.
You will now find a list full of logical SQL and physical SQL. Catch up the Physical SQL and run in Toad.
Rename the columns by giving suitable names and run the code. Result will be displayed on the data grid.
Your data is ready to be migrated to Tableau. So open Tableau Desktop and log into it through Oracle.
Now provide the required server connection and log in to Tableau.
Double click New Custom SQL. Then paste the executed SQL query in Edit Custom SQL and click OK.
You can now see the columns that were generated while running the SQL command. Click on Update Now.
The data will be displayed in Tableau. To create graphs go to WorkSheet.
Now drag Customer_code and Date_1 to Rows and Sum_Of_Dis_Global and Sum_Of_Net_Global to Columns. You can see the datas in tabular format.
Click on New WorkSheet icon to create another sheet.
In the new Sheet drag Customer_code and Date_1 to Coulmns and Sum_Of_Dis_Global and Sum_Of_Net_Global to Rows. You can also use Show Me to create various graphs. You can also add Color by dragging Customer_code into Color Mark Card. The graph can be created as below :
You can also change the color of the line graph so that bar graph and line graph color appears differently. To do this drag any one Measures into Color. The line graph color changes as below :
Create a dashboard by clicking on New Dashboard icon.
Drop the two sheets into dashboard. You can see both the data and the graph.
Click on Dashboard present in Layout section and tick Show Title check box. The default name of Dashborad will appear.
Rename the Dashboard to Industry Profile by right clicking on Dashboard 1 and choosing Rename Sheet.
You can also add images either in tiled or in floating by clicking on image option and navigating to the specific location where the image is stored.
Finally save the Tableau you have made. The Tableau will appear as follow.
